僕の独り言―‥‥だね

Something happened last night

My shift ended at 11pm (my schedule is from 2pm to 11pm)
My work place isn't that far from my house, just around a 5-minute drive, actually. Problem is, it's hard to get there if you don't have a car
And I don't
And due to the recent increase in cab fare (which almost doubled the price), I decided to try looking for an alternative way home, or my whole day's worth of allowance will just go the fare alone

Lucky enough, the last trip to my place via FX is still available
But since all 10 seats must be occupied first, I had to wait for a few more passengers

At 10 minutes before 12 midnight, I finally reached my stop
Our street is across the road so I had to walk a few meters
And once I got there, I was surprised to find policemen patrolling the area

One of them, a policeman around his 50's, approached me
He ask me if I'm a resident of the area and I said yes
He told me that one of my neighbors contacted them to report about 2 suspicious-looking men lurking in the dark corners of the street, as if planning a burglary
The said neighbor didn't find the men familiar and was so sure that they're not from here, so he got worried and called the police

I got scared, of course
Because the "dark corners" they were talking about is just a house away from my apartment
While talking to the policeman, I was also walking slowly, for I don't have any plans to stay outside for long
Funny enough, he was doing the same
So I thought, "oh, Mr. Policeman is just a kind old guy who wants to see a girl reach her home safely"

But I was wrong

I'm already at the gates of my apartment building but he's still not leaving, as if he wants to talk with me more
I was already feeling a little awkward because it seems like he even wants to know which unit am I renting and our convo went out like this...

Policeman: Do you live here alone?
Nei: No.
P: Ah, so you're with your husband?
N: I'm not married yet. I'm still young!
P: I see. I'm single too *smiles*
N: *awkward smirk*
P: Which one is your unit here?
N: Just here on the first floor.
P: Which one specifically?
N: One of them *not wanting to point the exact unit that is actually the one closest to us*
P: Can I visit you sometimes?
N: I'm sorry but my big brother won't allow any visitors. He'll just get mad. REALLY MAD. *pertains to a non-existent big brother*
P: I see...

After that I bid him goodbye, and luckily, the other policeman called him and finally he was gone

I don't give a fucking damn if he's still single
He could already pass as my father
Or grandpa, even
And besides, I'm not into old men
Unless he's Yoshiki or HYDE or GACKT or Atsushi Sakurai
Or Higashiyama Noriyuki

So now, I'm not just afraid of the suspicious-looking men, but of that police too
I must thank Nyel  though, because before she left for Canada, she told one of her cousins to look after me
Nyel 's house here in the Philippines is just 3 or 4 houses away from mine
And the whole street is like, composed of their clan or something
The street's name was even changed to that of her distant uncle's name, because apparently, the said distant uncle owns majority of the properties here, even the apartment I'm renting
See, Nyel  is from an elite clan here in Pasig
So yeah, kidnap her, and you can demand for high ransom lol

I therefore conclude,
That my current shift really sucks
Our management seem not to care about the safety of their employees,
As long as they're using people to the maximum, while providing minimum pay

D'you know the reason why we have this kind of shift?
It is so that we don't have night differential pay
It makes sense, since night differential is +20% of the regular hourly rate

In the end, all they care about is money
After all, it's their business
And businessmen must earn as much money as possible
Even at the expense of many people
